Technique
Volleyball Set
An overhead pass using the fingertips of both hands to place the ball accurately for a teammate to attack.
Technique
Overview
The set is the second contact in volleyball's bump-set-spike sequence and delivers the ball to an attacker in a hittable position. The setter contacts the ball above the forehead with the fingertips of both hands and pushes it upward with a soft, even touch.
A quiet, symmetrical hand shape and using the legs to guide direction give a set its accuracy and consistency.
How to do it
- 1Move under the ball and face your target.
- 2Raise your hands above your forehead in a rounded triangle shape.
- 3Contact the ball with the pads of your fingers on both hands equally.
- 4Extend your arms and legs to push the ball upward and outward.
- 5Follow through toward the intended hitter.
Key points
- Form a triangle window with your hands above your forehead.
- Contact the ball with the fingerpads of both hands at the same time.
- Extend your legs and arms together to guide the ball to the target.
