Badminton racket

A lightweight strung racket used to hit the shuttlecock in badminton.

Equipment

Overview

A badminton racket is much lighter than most other racquet-sport frames, with a small strung head and a slim shaft designed for quick, whippy swings. The low weight lets players react fast and generate speed on the shuttlecock with wrist and forearm action.

Because the shuttlecock is very light, badminton rackets are strung and built for control and speed rather than the heavy power needed for a solid ball.

Good to know

  • Noticeably lighter than tennis or squash racquets.
  • The strung area is designed for the light, fast-moving shuttlecock.
  • Quick wrist action matters more than a long, heavy swing.
