Racquet-Sport Equipment Compared

How racquets and balls differ across tennis, padel, badminton, squash and table tennis — and why.

The implement follows the ball

Each racquet sport pairs its implement to its ball or shuttle. Tennis uses a strung frame for a pressurised ball; padel uses a solid, stringless perforated racket for an enclosed court; badminton uses a very light strung racket for a shuttlecock; table tennis uses a rubber-covered blade for spin. The equipment is not interchangeable because the physics are different.

Weight, string and surface

Heavier, strung frames suit solid balls and longer swings; lighter frames suit fast, wristy sports; stringless solid faces suit short, controlled exchanges. Comparing them side by side shows how each design answers its own game.
