Materials, Weight, Balance & Grip — What Actually Matters
A plain-language guide to the equipment properties that change how gear performs and feels.
Materials
Materials set the baseline for weight, stiffness and durability. Stiffer frames and blades transfer more energy but can feel harsher; softer, more flexible materials are more forgiving. There is no universally “best” material — only the right trade-off for your level and style.
Weight and balance
Weight affects stability and how much effort a swing takes; balance affects how that weight feels in motion. Head-heavy gear adds power and plough-through, head-light gear feels quicker and more manoeuvrable. Our racquet-balance tool turns a balance measurement into points so you can compare objectively.
Grip
Grip size affects control, comfort and wrist health. Too small and you squeeze too hard; too large and you lose feel. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller and build up with an overgrip.
