When to Replace Worn Equipment
How to tell when sports equipment has reached the end of its safe or useful life.

Consumables wear out on a schedule
Balls, shuttlecocks, grips and strings are designed to be replaced. If you play frequently, keep spares — worn consumables change how the game plays and can cause injury (a slick grip, a dead ball).
Protective gear has a hard limit
Helmets, mouthguards and padding lose protective ability over time and after significant impacts. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance, and replace anything that has taken a real hit — protection you can’t trust is not protection.
Performance gear degrades gradually
Shoes lose cushioning, frames lose stiffness, fabrics lose stretch. You often notice the change in how you feel — more soreness, less response — before you see it. Track heavy-use items and replace them before performance or comfort suffers.
